The facade is completely dominated by the four colossal figures of seated Pharaohs, each about 20 metres tall. Beneath their feet there are reliefs depicting the subject peoples of the north and south.\par
Just north of
the Great Temple of Abu Simbel is the Small Temple devoted to Nefertari, Ramses II's principal consort, and to the goddess Hathor of Abshek.Although considerably smaller in size, this temple nevertheless appears equally grandiose.It was carved out of
the rock and has facade that is 28 metres wide and 12 metres tall. There are three niches on either side of the entrance containing colossal statues that are 11 and a half metres tall.\par
